He was known by many names, but most called him Deacon Johnson. James Albert Johnson went from labor to reward on Thursday, June 18, 2020. He was ordained as a Deacon at The Oak on August 13, 1995. He would go on to serve in varying capacities including Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee Chairman, Building Fund Chairman, and most recently as the Chairman of the Deacons Ministry.

In our community, he was mostly known as "Albert". His two areas of passion outside the church were Grilling and the  Atlanta Falcons. No one could beat him on the open pit and as far as his knowledge of the Falcons, he was second to none.

The name James Albert Johnson is legendary in the Winder, Barrow County Community. He is known by many of all races for his endless acts of love and kindness. He never waited for someone to ask him to help. Instead, he always was first to lend a helping hand. He will be impossible to replace so we pray that God will send someone to fill his space. We will forever miss our Deacon, Friend, Father, and Brother James Albert Johnson. If you get a chance  to visit us check out the street sign across from the church which bears his name.
